WebAccording to preliminary data compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), as of December 31, 2022, 226 federal, state, tribal and local law enforcement officers died in the line-of-duty in 2022. This is a dramatic decrease of approximately 61% from the 586 officers killed in 2021.
The Process and How It Works
WebStep 4 Approval. Once cases have been approved by the Names Committee, Memorial Fund Research staff contacts the agencies for which the officers worked for confirmation and follow up. Staff also works with the Memorial’s engravers to align the names on the Memorial and schedule the engraving, usually 2-3 weeks prior to National Police Week.
